Viscri Ceramics began the way most small studios do — with a single maker, a second-hand kiln, and an obsession with clay that refused to stay a hobby.
Where We Come From
The studio takes its name from the village of Viscri in Transylvania, a place of unhurried rhythms and deep craft traditions. That spirit — making things slowly, making them well, making them to last — is woven into everything we do. Our pieces are wheel-thrown and hand-built in small batches, finished with glazes we mix ourselves, and fired in an electric kiln in our studio.
What We Make
We make functional ceramics for everyday use: cups, mugs, bowls, pourers, and candleholders. Each piece is designed to be picked up, used, and lived with. We are drawn to simple forms with quiet surface interest — the kind of object that earns its place on a shelf by being genuinely useful and quietly beautiful at the same time.
The Workshops
Teaching is as important to us as making. Our workshops grew out of a desire to share not just techniques but the particular pleasure of working with your hands. Whether you have never touched clay before or you are looking to develop an existing practice, our sessions are small, unhurried, and focused on actually making something you are proud of.
The studio is open to workshop participants throughout the week. We keep groups small on purpose — never more than six people at a time — so there is always space to ask questions, make mistakes, and try again.
Come and Visit
If you would like to see the work in person, join one of our workshops or get in touch. We are always happy to talk about clay.
